36 Hours in Manhattan: The Lesser-Known Sights
So you want to visit the famous Big Apple? As a native New Yorker, I can assure you it’s worth the trip. Even if you only have 36 hours in Manhattan! I myself have lived here for the large majority of my life and still find interesting things to do.
If you are planning a trip to New York, I’m sure you have googled “things to do.” The results probably all come up the same. Times Square, Central Park, the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty… the list goes on. All these places are certainly worth the visit! Therefore, I do suggest taking a trip to check out all the main attractions. However, what if you’re visiting for the 2nd or 3rd time? What if you’ve seen all the big tourist sights? Moreover, what if you want to dig a little deeper into this unique city? Well, I have the perfect itinerary for you!
The Background
This past weekend my friend and I did a “staycation” in the city we call home. We spent 36 hours in Manhattan exploring parts of the city we had yet to see. First, the goal was to visit highly rated places that are lesser-known to your average tourist. Second, to share the trip with my readers, who may be interested in taking a unique approach to exploring NYC! To be fair, one popular spot is on this list, but that’s because my friend had never been.
Below you will find the exact itinerary my friend and I followed between the morning of May 22, 2021, and the evening of May 23, 2021. Nothing was changed and every little detail is included, should you want to recreate it yourself. We had a lovely time. That is to say, despite being a short train ride away from home, it felt like we were on vacation!
